Our story
Who we are
Hobart Loans is an independent personal- and business-finance publication based in Hobart, Tasmania. Our tagline — For Finance Fanatics — says it all: we love untangling loans, interest and credit so that you don't have to be a fanatic yourself.
We publish in-depth guides, build free calculators and offer a no-cost loan-readiness review for Tasmanian households and small businesses. Everything we do is aimed at one outcome: helping you borrow with your eyes open, at a cost you understand and can comfortably repay.
We are not a lender and we don't hold an Australian Credit Licence. That independence is deliberate. We don't have loans to sell, so our job is simply to explain your options clearly — and, if you ask, to connect you with a licensed professional.

Independence
No lender owns us and no advertiser edits us. Sponsored content is always labelled.
Accuracy
We check guides against primary sources and show the date each page was last reviewed.
Plain English
Jargon gets explained, examples get worked through and the maths is shown.
Privacy
No advertising trackers, self-hosted fonts and scripts, and no credit checks — ever.

What we do
Guides that go deep
Our guides explain how loans really work in Australia — from how loan term changes the total you pay to bridging finance and business finance options.
Free tools
The loan calculator estimates repayments, compares loans and shows what extra repayments save. Our glossary decodes the jargon.
Free loan-readiness reviews
Tell us what you're planning and we'll reply within one business day with a plain-English rundown and a document checklist. See our six free services.
Editor
Philip Riddle
Philip is the editor of Hobart Loans. He writes and edits our guides on loans, credit and business finance, and oversees our editorial and fact-checking standards. See Philip's articles or read our editorial policy.
How we're funded
Our guides, tools and reviews are free. Hobart Loans is funded by clearly labelled advertising and sponsorship (see Advertise Here) and — only where a reader asks us to refer them to a licensed broker or lender — a referral fee that we disclose to the reader before the referral is made. Commercial relationships never decide what we write.
What we don't do
- We don't lend money, arrange credit or give personal financial advice.
- We don't run credit checks or ask for bank passwords, TFNs or card numbers.
- We don't sell your details. Read our privacy policy.
